need goodmama answer ASAP
YAY! my goodmama order came today and one of my gen-y diaper covers! TOO EXCITING. we've been putting lucy in a disposable at night and i'm so ready to be done with that. can i put her directly in the goodmama without prepping it first? she goes to bed in about 30 minutes, so a quick reply would be great :) i hope we can figure out the snaps. we're an aplix (bumgenious) family for the most part and haven't done snaps since our kissaluv 0 days! i also got 4 little dresses because i think that will be handy when lu starts using the potty more. i couldn't believe i got 3 diapers and 4 dresses for under 70 dollars. what a fun mail day! thanks in advance! | | Tuesday, August 18th, 2009 | | 5:08 pm |
one of THOSE posts...
for posterity: someone PEED IN THE POTTY today. but then as soon as her diaper was on, she went further....in the diaper and NOT on the potty. still, since we aren't officially making an effort-- i think peeing in the potty was a fine acheivement! we also had a weird limping incident over the weekend. i'm putting that in my journal too, because i want to remember what day it was (8/16/09). | | Friday, July 10th, 2009 | | 9:11 pm |

Lucy Cooks! as promised, mama and lucy make a very berry salad :) recipe: a toddler's patience worth of blueberries a smattering of chopped up cherries a couple throws of black raspberries whole milk strawberry yogurt, one baby container allow your toddler to help. distract yourself with a cherry pitter so you won't be so wrapped up in your child's failed attempts with the blueberries. if you want to be extra persnickety wipe the corn silks off the counter before starting ;) | | Thursday, July 2nd, 2009 | | 11:58 pm |
MY little girl
today lucy helped me make zucchini bread and a berry salad. and she REALLY was into it. she stood precariously on a kitchen chair and watched me dump dry ingredients into a large bowl. then when i was all done with the flour and distracted by other things like baking soda and salt and such, she started to scoop out some flour from it's storage container and -- surprise! she actually got a little into the bowl i was putting the "real" ingredients in. she was really proud and i couldn't get the excess out without scooping out other stuff- so, because it wasn't much and i probably was light on the flour anyhow...i left it in. she also helped me "mix" the dry ingredients. this involved a little stirring (with a whisk) and a whole lot of hands on scooping and dumping...which sorta helped with the "too much flour" thing too. *sigh* then, i gave her the zucchini end that i had chopped off of the "real" zucchini, so she would be distracted while i mixed the wet ingredients, or at least while i grated the "real" zucchini... well, she got to the grater first. she takes her zucchini end had has it against the grater, perfect form! i narrowly avoided her grating her precious dimpled fingers because i was so impressed that she knew exactly what to do with the grater! what a genius :) of course, being mom of the year (remember my child is standing on a chair, playing with large ceramic bowls on a counter that isn't quite the right height for, even on the precarious chair), i took the grater away and gave her something else to do... i think i let her go back to pretending our dry ingredients were the sandbox at the park we visited this morning. anyhow...it sure did take a long time to make the bread with all lu's help. and we can't share the bread with anyone because, her hands were all over it & she took a couple bites at (not, of , at) the zucchini before i grated it. as i finished the bread and took a phone call, i decided to move my child to the floor & she found the pots/pans cabinet. she's always been pretty easily distracted from that cabinet, so it was pretty surprising to me that she found it so fun this afternoon. while my attention was on the phone and bread, lucy emptied the cabinet to the point where she could climb in. dan came home 59 minutes early and wasn't amused. if i'd found us like that i would have been asking "where is the camera?" dan scooped up the child and left the mess. (but did pick it up later for me, dear man!) okay, i need to take some medicine (2 hours late) and get to bed. tomorrow i'm going to post the video of lucy helping with our berry salad. you will see the precarious chair in action! i reallyreally need one of these: http://www.blueberryforest.com/magical_home_decor/learning-tower.htmanyone have 200 dollars laying around? gack! | | Monday, June 29th, 2009 | | 8:12 pm |
18 months old Cute thing lucy started doing in the last few days... I pinched my nose and talked one day and she thought it was funny. So now, as i'm singing to her at her night feeding, she will pinch my nose shut and then laugh when she let's it go and my voice goes from silly to normal. not the other way mind you-- she isn't laughing at my "silly" voice...she's laughing that she can change my voice! bedtime takes longer now, because she's so so silly. i love lucy! | | Wednesday, June 24th, 2009 | | 9:35 pm |

yes, we have no bananas....
Today we went with amy & OG to check out the new toy store in town... it was all it's website promised it would be (www.tiddlywinkstoys.com) and i can see myself splurging their for future gift giving occasions when i need something "special" enough for my favorite neice and nephew. as for lucy, well, i think she might be a little spoiled. we go in and she starts investigating things to put it politely. starting with the books, i honestly think alot of the stuff she pulled off the shelf she thought was "hers" because she seemed to select items that , oh gee, she already has. it because even more confusing when got to the back of the store and they had 4 rody horses on display in the "testing" area, including a lime one (just like lucy has). yikes. what a spoiled little child! we managed to spend 45 minutes in the store without buying anything or breaking anything. so that was good. it helped that my friend amy is very good about not buying stuff. i thought about getting lucy some wooden fruits and veggies of the "slice and stick back together" variety, but decided to consult with daddy about it. he said "in this economy that store won't be around if YOU don't buy anything." i think this is a more a commentary on my impulse control than on the economy. still, when i said something about getting it on another day he made his more typical "you're spending all the money!" jokey comment. that's dan. the amy & OG came back home with us to have some lunch. we had, big surprise, egg salad sandwiches...it was much more fun to peel 12 colored eggs than it usually is to peel eggs. i also made a really fabulous dip for crackers, crudites, or whatever: avacado blue cheese yogurt dip (from stoneyfield yogurt), i made a half recipe so here is what i did: 2 avacados (except that i accidently only used 1, amy found the other one on the counter but it still tasted avacado-ey) 1/2 cup plain yogurt ( i used whole b/c that's what i had) 1/4 cup blue cheese (gorgonzola was what i used because i had it) 2 scallions green parts chopped fine (green parts only, i used a handfull of what i already had chopped up) 1 tBsp olive oil 1 tBsp lemon juice 1/2 clove minced garlic this was seriously yum. i had baby carrots and some whole wheat crackers for dipping. seriously yum. lucy loved it too and even used her spoon to eat it! wowwy! i see us eating this alot in the future- at least while whole milk yogurt and avacados are staples in the house :):) yesterday was lucy's 15 month well visit. it was supposed to be before our vacation, but she had a crazy fever so we delayed the shots. as it was, there is some sort of shortage of the shot she was supposed to get and she didn't get it anyhow yesterday- *sigh*. it's okay though, because this way i got to report that lucy started walking, so there weren't any worries. the doctor told me that everything looked great and apparently lu gained something like .75 pounds in 20 days. at here age, that's really good, especially considering she doesn't ever gain anything!!! so she's 19.5 pounds and 30.5 inches now-- apparently her height is solidly 50% now. woohoo! even though lucy can pretty reliably tell me where her nose, mouth, ears, head, belly button, hair, etc are, the doctor asked "where's your nose?" and she just stared at him. nice, lu, nice. tomorrow we're doing something pretty excited- we're going out to brad's produce farm to sign up for a CSA--community supported agriculture. while it probably would be a good idea to start with a half share, i'm afraid of missing the "good stuff" (by only getting a box every other week), so i'm getting a full share. it works out to 18 dollars a week, which seems like a pretty good deal and it supports a local farm that we like to get food from anyhow. the partner with a farm in PA in toward the fall so we'll get apples too. i'm excited! I wanted to join one last year but missed the deadline due to small infant! what a difference a year makes- now lucy can eat everything we'll get! is it sick that i most looking forward to the local brocolli? gosh, there is just nothing better :) this weekend is supposed to be beautiful. saturday we have two fun options- the aforementioned toy store is having a grand opening party complete with lucy's favorite : CURIOUS GEORGE and ladew garden's is having "dollar days" -- so cheap entry into really cool gardens. we're thinking of trying to do both. we also need to plan a date because my friend owes me some babysitting. lately things are pretty sweet. | | Sunday, April 12th, 2009 | | 5:30 pm |
Eastery Update (a cut & paste version from an email sent)
Last year, Easter was necessarily lowkey, though not by design. Janice, Gywn and daughters were to join me for Easter Tea at the local place down the road. I wasn't having my normal party (i had a 3 month old!) but i did make elaborate favors that involved visit's to joann's, michaels & home depot (every one needs a living favor, don't you think?). I purchased all sorts of food to make dan and i a feast too. Alas, i woke up saturday morning feeling queasy and dan finally got me to call a doctor because it progressed to "feeling like i was having the baby again." i thought perhaps i'd tough it out for the pre-paid tea event (i hate throwing money away!), but ended up barely making it downstairs to say hi to janice and her girls. i had to go back up and lay down before gwyn and kiera even arrived. it was AWFUL. the verdict after a trip to urgent care and then 5 hours waiting at the ER was-- APPENDIX, OUT NOW. i was in surgery 30 minutes after they got the scan results. i didn't even have time to worry! so this year, we went back to having a party after a 2 year break . the year before last my parents came and mom and i made 3-d cookies, that was ENOUGH for any year, i tell you! it took 3 days! i invited all our baby friends and some grad school people. we had a crowd of 14. 4 of which were toddlers 15-17 months, so i assure you 14 was ENOUGH. there was TONS of food, but i did all the cooking friday (well, the preparing, then yesterday i just "cooked" it all). there were the lunch foods-- spiral cut hickory ham, scalloped pineapple, cheesy potatos, manderin orange romaine salad, roasted whole carrots with herb de provence, roasted asparagus, devilled eggs. there were breakfast foods-- apple cinnamon french toast, spinach artichoke quiche, sausage chedder quiche, butterscotch pull apart rolls. there was dessert-- fresh strawberry pie & bird's nest cookies (and candy, candy and MORE candy). there was champagne punch (lots of takers) & hot coffee w/ optional irish cream (only i opted for the irish cream, yumyum). we all ate/drank ourselves silly & there was still lots left. then after the girls did a wardrobe change (out of fancy dresses), we headed over to the park and had a little egg hunt. lucy was more interested in a mud puddle than the eggs, so i'm glad i changed her clothes! (silk dress + mud puddle = sad mommy!) once it was evident that the kids weren't going ot pick up more eggs & that the neighborhood dogs would be in jeopardy if we kept letting the boys crack open the eggs and dump the chocolate, we all came back to the house to sort out loot & dole out prizes. i've always been a big believer in prizes, even when our egg hunts were just for our adult friends. i had folkmanis fingerpuppets (a jack rabbit & a butterfly), a charlie harper puzzle, matching game, and abc & 123 book set, and a set of felt finger puppets (panda, bear, pig & tiger)-- so each kid (excepting lucy) got two prizes , plus their candy (for parents mostly), plus i'd knit about 2 dozen strawberries and popped those in the eggs too and they could take as many as they wanted (we cracked all the eggs open to find them and the peanut butter eggs ;) i also had been hoarding stuffed bunnies bought on clearance many years ago-- so all the kids got one of those too. (even lucy, but she got her's this morning) our grad school friends stayed later than our baby friends, which was nice. lucy took a late and long nap, then went to bed late. when she woke up this morning the easter bunny had come and left her all sorts of goodies--blocks, (more) books, mini playsilks, wooden animals, her bunny, a parakeet finger puppet (folkmanis and too cute for words), and hair clippies. oh, and a tiny "harvey chocolate bunny"-- when i saw that at the local chocolate shop downtown, lucy had to have it. we even let her taste it after she ate a good lunch today of spinach artichoke quiche, apple, & milk. she just had the tiny ears, i swear. she loved it. we dressed lu up & headed to church which was jam packed. she didn't want to be quiet or still, so most of her time was spent in the vestibule with her father and other unruly children. we picked up a couple bagels and some cream cheese to have with lox as lunch and headed back home...(we usually have bagel & lox on easter but it was the one thing that was skipped this year so i really wanted it today of course) lu took a nap, and dan and i did too. well...the best we could while "watching" the beatles "yellow submarine" which dan picked up at the library. i kept waking up every time a song came on ;) when lucy woke up we had our bagels & she had her lunch (and chocolate).. . we played and we dyed eggs. lucy wasn't very interested in the egg dying except wanting to eat the dyed eggs. we decided to let her do some solo book reading while we finished up!! so that's our busy weekend-- my favorite of the entire year :) tonight we'll eat left over ham & pineapple and salad and eat more fresh strawberry pie :) (it's only good for a couple days max...that's my story and i'm sticking to it :) hope everyone had a happy springy day! | | 3:17 pm |
